Cars like the Golf GTI that require high fuel pressure for proper combustion have two fuel pumps – a low-pressure one in the fuel tank, and a high-pressure one at the back of the cylinder head. The pump closer to the engine is responsible for delivering the fuel pumped through the low-pressure one from the tank into the combustion chamber.
On the GTI side, I like the Mk7.5 for the bigger brakes, 7-speed DSG, and SE trim for the leather seats. Not really interested in the cloth vs. leather debate - leather is what I prefer in the Mk7. VAQ being standard in the 7.5 is awesome, and the 7.5 got the bigger brakes from the Golf R.
Our favourite among the older cars is the 1.4 TSI 125, and on later cars the 1.5 Evo 130 version. We reckon the SE, Match and Match Edition trims offer the best balance of equipment and price.
